Experience

Isabel Casimiro, MD, PhD, is an endocrinologist and instructor at the University of Chicago. Her special interests include diabetes, lipid disorders, obesity, and transgender medicine. At the University of Chicago, she conducts research focusing on type 2 diabetes and adipose tissue dysfunction as a physician-scientist in molecular biology. Her research has been published in several medical journals including Cell Metabolism and the Journal of the Endocrine Society. Throughout her time at the University of Chicago, Dr. Casimiro has served in academic leadership positions in graduate and medical school program committees. She is passionate about efforts toward recruiting more underrepresented minorities in medicine as well.

Education

Dr. Casimiro received her Bachelor’s degree from California State University-Chico and her Master’s degree from San Francisco State University. She received her medical degree from the University of Washington and her PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  Dr. Casimiro completed her residency in internal medicine and endocrinology training at the University of Chicago.
